The buffens dance
The buffens (or mattachins) is not a traditional English dance, but is taken from a French book of dances published in 1583 - 'Orchesography' by Thoinot Arbeau. We perform it occasionally as an encore or if we are giving a long show. It is a fast, fighting dance which needs accuracy and concentration to look good; not to be attempted when tired or after grappa.
